Have you tried calling a local daycare and asking them? If you go to church, 12 might be old enough to help with the children's classes. Or some type of YMCA program that might take volunteers? I'm not sure if they would, just because she's still young herself. But you could still call a local Red Cross and see about babysitting certification and CPR lessons. If she had those before you started looking, it could weight well in her favor.

google Michigan volunteer guidelines.

Or better yet just go to your local police station and ask them if they can give you any information or point you to someone who can.

Over here (Windsor) we need a police clearance to volunteer in a child care setting, and then the only requirement is to follow the
day cares policies which they hand out when you first meet with them to set up volunteer times.

However her age may be a factor, you'll need to ask the day care if she's old enough.
