It's just another method of advertising sexuality. It's not done only by gay people, but all people--all you have to do is look at advertising, magazines, and other media to see the human body flaunted in differing states of undress. A parade is a special event where costumes which some people wouldn't be allowed to wear in public are condoned. Maybe they're wearing them to keep closed-minded people from being around.

No, you wouldn't get fined for indecentcy if you ran around in your underwear... there's a guy in Times Square who does it with a guitar for a living! Also, as important as acceptance by the government is to homosexuals, I really don't think they care if the general public cares what they do during a parade, I think the whole reason they have the parade is for themselves. It's expected... just like flashers are expected at Mardi Gras. Kids see way worse than that on tv and movies these days... which I think, to some extent, is good. I don't believe in completely sheltering children from the real world we live in.

It is that the Liberals in this country are so worried about offending any group of people (besides decent Christians). They are afraid that they will be looked upon and discriminatory and that could hurt the polls. Republicans have recently been almost as bad, worrying so much about what people think they think about illegal aliens and some of the liberal causes. I think they should have unleashed the fire Dept on those fruits and let them test their water pressure and fire hoses. I agree with their right to parade or even to be gay, but I think I have the right to not have to look at a bunch of fruit loops in their underwear. I though those parades were to try to get the world or at least the U.S. to see that even though they are gay they are people too and can be respected, not that I do, but seeing them in their underpants doesn't make me have any respect for them. What are they trying to prove other than that they are different and don't deserve my respect?

So there are gay people running around their underwear? So what? There are straight people who run around in their underwear too eg. The Naked Cowboy. There are straight people who walk around in clothes that honestly should be called underwear. What? Is there a rule saying gay people shouldn't do it, is that reserved for straight people only?. Would you care as much if you didn't know they were gay, something tells me you wouldn't. If there was a Victoria's Secret parade to launch the new line and half of the models were lesbians or if there were hott lesbians in the gay pride parade you wouldnt give a damn! If you wanted to run around in your underwear at a parade that allowed or called for it then wouldn't you? You may look indecent but who cares right? you're allowed to do it, it's your right!

Actually, you would not receive a fine for indecency for running around in your underwear. Since underwear provides the same cover as swimwear, there are very few laws against such things. Those few laws which do exist are in extremely Conservative places such as Provo, Utah. If they tried to hold a gay rights parade in Provo, the indecency laws would be the least of their concerns.
You would be amazed at how many cities in which is it actually legal for women to go topless. It isn't done much, but it is perfectly legal.
Maybe you should start the trend... if you are a guy, leave the house tomorrow in tighty-whiteys (boxers would be too easy) and if you are a woman wear only your bra and panties. Maybe that is our first step toward equal rights for homo and heterosexuals.

Yes we are bending over backwards to make nice and it is truly sad. I support my sister in law who is gay, but not the parade that should not be allowed no matter what you believe. My opinion entirely. Kids do go to these parades, there is a tent set up called "Fruit loops" at the Toronto one just for the kiddies. Kids are watching and participating and that is where the world is at today. Having a straight version will not help ,but we surely need help figuring out what we want our world to look like when we turn it over to the kids Hummmm

I am a pretty tolerant person towards gays, but the "gay pride" parades that you speak of deeply offend me and make me wish they would all go back in the closet. Dancing around in kinky underware in public reinforces the stereotype of gays as devient and abnormal and puts their cause back.
It also seems like every show on TV these days has to have a gay character, but ironically most of these characters are the very shallow stereo type that the gay rights movement is trying to overcome. (overly feminine voice and mannor, often overly vulgar or lustful)

It is not that gay people " can " run around in there underwear in the gay pride parade- it is that they chose to. The gay pride parade is a day put aside for the gay and lesbian communities to celebrate their sexual orientation with other's in their community. ( that is not the problem ). the problem that I have with this is that the heterosexual community does not flaunt that we are heterosexual, and we don't have parades to do so in. I understand and accept the gay and lesbian lifestyle, but when you are fighting to have the same rights as heterosexuals, a pride parade is not the way to go.

Be open minded. People walk around on beaches, downtown streets, suburbs, wearing next to nothing, and a lot of times being more unclothed that those is the gay pride parade. Is it the way they're dressed or that they are expressing their lifestyle?

ok first it is underwear, secondly in parades like this they allow underwear and are thankful it is not no wear. It seems gays like to advertise their sexuality when given the chance. Remember they have been in the closet so long so now they want to let everyone know where they stand and underwear allows that to be shown pretty easily.
