i.e. the single mom who has to work 2 jobs to make ends meet. Are we (USA) not above the survival of the fittest mentality?

Here's the problem I have with the "Neo-Con" mentality:

They are against teaching about birth control, against abortion, and against helping single mothers who didn't use birth control or get an abortion.

They seem to forget the most sweeping welfare reform of the last 30 years was signed into law by a Democrat. The "welfare-to-work" program gives people a chance to get off of welfare by helping with their education and child care. Republicans love to throw around the "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him to fish and he eats for life" line, but then don't want to give him enough to survive until he can get to the "river".

They seem to forget the line in the Preamble to the Constitution about "promote the general welfare". Let me break that down:
Promote-to contribute to the growth or prosperity of
general-affecting the whole
welfare-the state of doing well especially in respect to good fortune, happiness, well-being, or prosperity
We have a responsibility to "contribute to the growth or prosperity of everyone". We are responsible for everyones "good fortune, happiness, well-being, or prosperity". I donate time and money to charities, work at soup kitchens, and try to help those less fortunate than I.

They claim to be "good Christians" and then turn their back on those who Jesus said to help the most.

I am a moderate, but call myself a liberal when I see how far off the deep end a lot of conservatives have gone.

The great thing about the USA is that we are not a socialist country robbing the middle class via taxes. The 'neocons' as you so lovingly call them want people to pay low taxes thus keep more of their own money. And also want to repeal many existing taxes to further lighten peoples burden.

The neocoms (neo-communists, ie democrats/liberals/progressives) do care about the poor however. They care about keeping them poor, because then the poor can be suckered into voting for rich white democrats. These rich white liberals then invent a dozen new taxes which people will have to pay.

The 9 richest members of the Senate are all democrats with INHERITED wealth, most of whom all dodge paying high taxes via off shore tax constructions.

I'm sorry, is anything preventing you from giving to charity?

If a single mom is working 2 jobs to make ends meet, is that not more a result of her poor decision-making than anything else?

Single mom - either not married but having children, or got married to somebody who was not good husband material. Too infrequently due to widowhood, so let's not use that strawman.

2 jobs (assuming minimum wage) - so she did not pursue education or a trade or career. Again, bad choices.

So, based on her poor decisions regarding her education and mating choices, you think that gives her entitlement to a portion of MY paycheck? In effect, do you believe she is entitled to MY money? That I have to work x hours per week and she gets the fruit of my labors? Bucko, that is called slavery. It is not 'charity'.

It is an illegal taking from me, and it is an illegal spending by the government, by any reasonable interpretation of the Constitution and Amendments.

The basic thing is that noboby else is entitled to the fruits of others' labors. This means welfare, social security, medicare, etc are all wrong - unconstitutional, unethical and immoral.

we have all sorts of programs for people that need help. Unfortunately, no longer do people appreciate the fact that the government would help them out.... they EXPECT it. I think it's good that the government would help people out if they are physically or mentally unable to take care of themselves, however it's gone beyond that....now you get money for being poor. As if you are a victim and you had nothing to do with it. For the most part, the people with the money have it b/c they have a special skill, worked hard, went to school etc. and the far left demonize people for being successful. btw, the U.S. now, under GWB, are giving away about double the money to various programs for poor/ minorities, education etc. as Clinton did in 1999. People are supposed to take care of themselves, dude...unless they absolutely can't.Stop thinking the government is supposed to do everything. also....the top 1% pay like 30% of the taxes. o.k.?

I was a single working Mom for many years and very poor. But I switched partys Libs and Dumbocrats are not what they used to be or else I was just stupid. The right does care about the poor, the economy is very good right now. If you invest your tiny money it will grow.

Because most of them have never been poor and don't know what it's like to struggle to support a family. That's why they voted against a minimum wage increase. They want the poor to work but they don't want to pay them for the work and have them be able to afford a house and pay the bills. And as far as "tax cuts" they usually only benefit the wealthiest 1%.

Wow, you really come up with some interesting and thought-provoking questions that highlight just how serious liberals are about the great issues of the day.

Thanks for properly representing modern American liberalism.

because most of them come from rich familys where the fortune and assets were passed down from generation to generation. i had a response yesterday from a conservative who said cutting financial aid from college students was good becasue the value of the degree would go up. this guy obviously didn't know the feeling of struggling to pay for classes or books, he probably didn't go to college because his parents gave him a job with their company or corporation. these guys are full of hate, stubborness and no compassion.

I hope you are collecting child support for your children. Democrats and Republicans will back you on that. If your not on welfare I commend you for taking responsibility for yourself and your family. Social benefits are up more than any other administration under this president, so what you are saying has no validity.

We care about the ones who work. It's the ones who stay on welfare and keep breeding that we're not too happy with.
