So much to do!! I tell people who are visiting to can head down to Kelly Drive and go jogging, cycling or rollerblading. The other side, MLK drive (formerly West River drive) is closed to traffic all day on Saturday and Sunday from April to October . It is cool to ride along there at night and see Boat House Row lit up. If you are in that area, you aren't to far from the Art Museum, which is great and usually has two major exhibits a year (Andrew Wyeth's collection was featured recently). The Franklin Institute is a pretty cool museum down in that vicinity too. Around there I like to go to Rembrandt's on Aspen St. and a little further down to the Rose Tatoo to eat.

There is also Old City, which is a very trendy area that has a lot of nice restaurants and bars (but most of them ain't cheap). This section probably has the hippest nightlife. There are some other neighborhoods nearby like Northern Liberties. This section has McFadden's, Finnegan's Wake, and Tiki Bob's which are popular and often crowded nightspots. Finnegan's and Tiki Bob's are a little younger crowd. Standard Tap is also in Northern Liberties and has the best bar food I've ever tasted. Il Radicchio is one of my favorite Italian restaurants and is in that neighborhood too. Manayunk has plenty of nightlife, but it is a little bit younger (college and just graduated from St. Joe's/ LaSalle/Penn St. a couple years back crowd). Some good restaurants there, but nothing that is going to knock your socks off (except maybe Jake's, which is pricey).

South Philly is a must-see. Lots of Italian restaurants (and lots of Italian Americans living there) There are so many good ones, that it would be impossible to list them all, most of them are pretty reasonable. Also, plenty of good non-Italian places too. La Taquiera Veracruz near the Italian market has some of the best Mexican in town and is real cheap (I think that is 10th and Washington). Oh, and don't worry about all the cars parked in the middle of the street, they just do that down there for some reason. Also, the sports complexes are all down there. Citizen's Bank Park houses the Phillies and Lincoln Financial Field houses the Eagles. It is tough to get Eagles tickets, but the Phils only sell out for really big games. The Sixers and Flyers both play in the Wachovia Center. South Philly is also home to Pat's and Geno's cheesteaks. You don't have to go there to get a good cheesesteak-I personally like Tony Luke's better (just about any steak or pizza shop in Philly will have good ones), but they are open 24 hours.

As for other restaurants I really like Las Cazuelas, another good Mexican restaurant in North Philly on the fringe of Northern Liberties (4th and Girard). In Chinatown, Vietnam (not to be confused with Vietnam Palace across the street) is amazing and real cheap, plus an awesome bar upstairs (the Saigon Lounge). Supposedly Vietnam Palace is pretty good too, but I've never been. Lots of awesome Chinese food in Chinatown, and it is all really reasonable.

I almost forgot about Center City, but that is nice as well. Awesome soft pretzels from just about any street vendor. The Reading Terminal is amazing, and has all different types of food vendors. Plenty of upscale restaurants in that area-McCormick and Schmicks, Capital Grill, Alma de Cuba, La Brasseire Periere, Susanna Foo's just to name a few.

I feel like I'm just talking about food but there's so much more to do than eat. There is the Liberty Bell and the Constitution Center. There is a nice little waterfront area. I'd reccommend seeing a concert on Festival Pier when the weather is nice (Jack Johnson was off the chain the last 2 times I saw him there). Also, Philly is within a 2 hour drive of just about everywhere give or take half an hour. You are close to New York, Baltimore, DC, the mountains (if you can call the poconos "mountains") Atlantic City and the southern NJ beaches. They can all make for nice little side trips.

My best advice is to get friendly with locals. Go out with people from work. Philly residents are not known for being super friendly, but will warm up to you after a while and tend to be very loyal. If you are in to sports, there is a Manayunk Sports league that has everything from flag football to darts. There is also another Philadelphia sports league that is a little more competitive, but they are both good ways to meet people.

We visited Philadelphia a few years ago for a convention, and loved the Reading Terminal Market, next to the convention center. It has all sorts of good things to eat.

The paths to understanding American history all converge in Philadelphia and its historic countryside. Even before William Penn founded the city and built his estate in Bucks County, Native Americans and Swedish colonists recognized the region as an attractive place for trade and settlement.

Here Americans defended their liberty, achieved technological success, and forged the ideals of the American Dream. Today, visitors can enjoy the legacy from more than three centuries of political, economic, social, and cultural achievements — all within the Philadelphia area.

well you can go out and see the sights while you dodge bullets! And don't worry about joining a health club... the crooks will keep you running all day and night!

And if you are gay.... Philly is the City of Brotherly Love....lol.... or does that refer to Brothers as in Blacks because there are a lot of them, there too? Hmm....lots of crooks...lots of blacks....coincidence?

And btw.. I LOVE black people! They're a little greasier than whites but with the right spices and cooking methods they do turn out tasty!

:P

Since I was born and raised here, I can't think of anything more than to go camping in the Poconos, or go down the shore.
