Different languages exist since ever - in earlier times humans lived in smaller groups without contact to other groups - not speaking about contacts to other continents...
Even today, in Africa there are thousands of tribal languages, many of them don't even exist as a written language.
So it's simply normal and natural to have different languages.

According to the Bible, people used to speak the same language but one day they started building the Babel tower because they felt very powerful and God decided to teach them a lesson and He confused the languages and that day different languages were born.

God made the different languages in order to keep us separated. This way we can form different groups, nations, etc to war with eachother and keep the population down.
Or:
In ancient times, as various civilizations came into existence, They were geographically separated so they had no contact with eachothr. different groups therefore developed different languages. Since we are just stepping into the global age now, there has not been enought time for languages to evolve into one.
