F1 techy guys! How & what test script to write to alert yourself to re-start the website when server is down.?

write some kind of a chron to check if the apache (or which ever webserver you are using) is still up and running. Make that chron send you a mail if that is not so.
I can think of very simple ways to do that in Linux, but dont know enough about windows to help
