Wayforwardnow - Thanks for the contribution....the Swampy you mentioned was not the same one. The chap killed on Stockton was a 20 year old. Swampy's real name (I think) was Dan Hooper??

Apparently he vowed never to get involved with the media again. There was an article in The Guardian in 2003 to that effect.

He was involved in Co.Wicklow Ireland, where a motorway was being built through the Glen of the Downs. He is probably an executive of some large road building company by now.........

he moved to Stockton-on-Tees & unfortunately was beaten to death in 2002. His murders have just lost their appeal.
