Updating your iPod won't erase the files in a computer. If you have your iPod set to automatically update or sync with the computer you connect it to then you will erase the music on you iPod and replace it with the music from the new computer.

You need to change the settings for how you update your ipod. Connect you iPod to the computer that has all your current music.
In iTunes click on edit and chose preferences from the drop down menu click on the iPod tab. There should be an option to manually update your iPod. You want to select that option.

This will prevent any music being erase from your iPod when you connect it to another computer.

if you update your ipod on two different computers, no songs will be deleted on either computer. if you want to put music from both computer on your ipod with deleting music on your ipod, set your ipod to manual update (go to your ipod in itunes, then click on the ipod in the bottom right) and change it to manual.
