I agree, my son was jabbed by a dirty needle while playing in a play park. We had to endure months of waiting to see if he had caught HIV or any other diseases but thankfully he was OK. There is not enough being done to keep the place clean and when i tried to speak to the local council they refused to speak to me. We also have now had the uplift of our household rubbish changed to every fortnight instead of every week and already there is rubbish lying everywhere. What do we pay council tax for?

I agree with your comments 100%. The problem is you have always got the 'Do Gooders' that see no harm in paying council tax. On behalf of the pensioners, (being one myself) I think they should be paying less than they are ordered to pay. I also feel that everyone should be means tested so as to determine how much one can afford. There are many that flout the system but are never brought to court, if you are genuine then you suffer the consequences. As regards to Mrs Rooney, she was refusing to pay her council tax for a very good reason, she said she had the money but was witholding it so as to get something done about the problems in her area. She went to prison for it but again a 'Do Gooder' went and paid the money on her behalf. I am certain Mrs Rooney was annoyed about this as her cause was defeated even before it took effect

All public sector organisations tend to be inefficient, bureaucratic, politicised, and unionised. Mainly because they have no competition and their income, which mainly comes in the form of direct grant from central government, council tax and the business rate, is virtually guaranteed.
They also busy themselves with political correctness, ie. disabilities, sexism, racism, equal opportunities and are generally inward looking, apparently focusing more on the PC aspects of the process rather than the actual delivery of services.
Many town halls appear to have a left wing bias, which aligns them with the current government, much of the television media, education, the law and many other areas of the public sector.
Employees of these organisations are almost unsackable, take proportionately more sick leave and absence than the private sector employees, have gold plated pensions, have always been able to retire at sixty and are now paid, on average, at least as much as the private sector.
As I stated above, delivery of essential services seems to play second fiddle to their determination to pursue a left wing agenda. You only have to read the Guardian newspaper to see the scale of non-essential PC type jobs that are advertised.
As a consequence of the above, local authority costs have increased dramatically in recent years, way above the rate of inflation. This government are always bragging that inflation is under control. Well it isn't, it has simply moved to other areas, eg. House prices, petrol & fuel, local authority expenditure which comes to us in the form of the council tax and central government expenditure which hits us in the form of central government taxes.
Inertia is endemic in these organisations, because there is no incentive to change and/or look for more efficient ways to do things. To do so might lead to redundancies, the unions wouldn't like that.
So, because they won't put their own house in order, and governments have never had the bottle to do it, we see pressure being brought to bear by people who have had enough, and simply refuse to pay.
As a final note. The old rating system that was used to levy local authority charges was very unfair, because it was based on the value of the property. What has that got to do with the amount of local authority services that a person consumes? also it didn't matter how many people were in the house (It could be one or half a dozen) the charge was the same for each property.
When the Tory government tried to rectify this and at the same time try to make the local authorities more accountable by introducing the Community Charge ( christened the poll tax by the labour party) they were howled down by all the lefties protecting their piviledged position.

The 'overpaid' Heads of the various Local Council Departments DO not give a toss about the overworked and vastly underpaid staff in their departments, or the public they are supposed to be serving.
In my road we have to pay well over £1500 a year, and all we get for that is our dustbins empited and the recycling collected once a week. The road is bad rutted and is in desperate need of resurfacing, but despite numerous requests to the Highways Department of the local council, is has NOT been touched in over 20 years. I have NEVER seen a Policeman coming anywhere near where I live. Banging your head against a brick wall is more effective.

I agree about the over paid under worked officials, they play on the Internet all day long, constantly taking sickies, for one reason or another, they wouldn't do it if they never got paid, like the majority of the populous, the ones who pay there wages
there lost in ther own little world, not all of them but the majority.of them.
parasites
I seen it about the old lady,it was disgusting how she was treated,
they care more about the druggies, prostitutes, glue sniffers and,
child molesters, than the decent folk that live there,
but what can you expect from a government that has no values,or morals.politically correct.[shove it ].
that dear old girl needs a medal, not locking up.
I do believe she speaks for 99.9 % of Brittan .
three cheers for the old gal..
any one winging about she never paid her council tax definitely cant see the bigger picture.
take that rod out your back side, and give her a cheer.
A feminine robin hood..

i am afraid you do not have an impartial view. the 69 year old was jailed for BREAKING THE LAW, irrespective of what we feel about certain thingd we live in a democratic country where, if you don't like it you have the right to change it.
the council does not turn anyone into a drug user, that is societies job, you know, the thing you and i belong to, why did she count 10,000 and not move them? please don't say it's not her job, if we all took that attitude we wouldn't get anywhere. council workers, the ones you and i moan at, are not well paid, but with an attitude such as yours it is easy to see why they avoid you. out of interest , 10,000 is one hell of a lot, where do you live Colombia?

Yes, but when a young unemployed guy on drugs does not pay his council tax we'd all say it was right for him to be thrown in jail. Why is it ok for a 69 year old lady to get away with it?
Guess now us honest tax payers have to pick up the bill for her going to jail!

Council tax is a system of local taxation collected by local authorities. It is a tax on domestic property. Generally, the bigger the property is, the more tax will be charged. Some property will be exempt from council tax.

Every year my council tax increase swallows up more than my pay increase. I feel the same way as this lady.
Pity that every one is focused on the other Rooney in the news at the moment.

The tenant who signed the employ is the fellow in charge for paying council tax. in case you on my own are that individual you're the council tax payer and in case your father is claiming council tax income he's committing fraud as he's not in charge for council tax as you're the tenant. in case your father is the tenant he's in charge for council tax and would declare the income which he might want to then bypass onto the council. if so you need to no longer be in charge for his debt even besides the undeniable fact that you stay in the resources. in case you and your father are joint tenants then you definately are what's legally observed as "joint and severally" in charge. this signifies that you're both in charge for the finished quantity of the bill. you may want to privately agree between yourselves to pay 0.5 each and each yet when one in all you'll not pay the council would call upon the different to pay the finished quantity. it style of feels to me you want to get your self right down to the council and tell them who's the tenant, you or your father or both. The debt desires to be paid or an association to pay made or the council will positioned the bailiffs in. in case your father has been making fraudulent claims i do not understand what's going to ensue to him yet he's an adult he's in charge for his own moves. it really is not any longer your difficulty.
