You've got a really good driver. Unlike regular DVD writers and readers, DVD-RAM has the ability to have data overwritten 100,000 times compared to the DVD burners we have in most computers. The writing speed is a little slower, but its a lot more versatile. I'm just learning about it right now too.
You will be able to burn and read DVDs, and you dont need a special software like most of us do. You can basically burn things into your DVD as if its an extra hard drive. Its a pretty spectacular driver.
********************************
Compared with other writeable DVDs, DVD-RAM is more closely related to hard disk technology, as it has concentric tracks instead of one long spiral track. Unlike the competing formats DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW and DVD-RW, special DVD burning software is not required to write or read DVD-RAMs on a computer. DVD-RAMs can be accessed like a usual floppy disk or hard drive. Go ahead and play your game, you have all the capabilities of a DVD writer/reader on your DVD-RAM driver, but with a lot more options and with more convenience.
A DVD format wherein DVD-RAM discs can be recorded and erased repeatedly but are only compatible with devices manufactured by the companies that support the DVD-RAM format.

DVD-ROM stands for Digital Verstaile Disc-Read Only Memory
DVD-RAM stands for Digital Versatile Disc-Random Access Memory
You cannot write to a DVD-ROM and your drive should be able to read them. DVD RAM is a special format of writable DVD which only works in certain drinve and can be used to pause live TV.
I hope this helps, go ahead and play the DVD ROM game, have fun!

Random Access Memory or RAM allows you to obtain data in any order or randomly. It is generally your computers main memory. It is normally in the form of intergrated circuits. You can generally both write data to as well as read data from RAM.
Read only memory or ROM is data that generally can only be written to by reprogramming it all rather than RAM which can be easily edited. It was generally used for software which didn't change often. Early computers and video games used ROMs for their operating system but by the 1990's it was not widely used. However, some mobile phones and Personal Digital Assistants still use them.
