u must buy a bootable cd if u don't have u can boot your system with a bootable floppy disk ,

To create an MS-DOS startup disk
The MS-DOS startup disk you create will allow you to boot into MS-DOS.

Insert a floppy disk into your computer's floppy drive.
Open My Computer, and then click the floppy disk drive to select it.
On the File menu, point to the name of the floppy drive, and then click Format.
Under Format options, click Create an MS-DOS startup disk.
Click Start

then chang you setting of the bios of your mother bord to startup with flopy
then insert your flopy disk the u can formmat your system drive in dos mode
by typing format c:
after formatting restart and insert the windows cd

I have recently done the same thing. The problem you are experiencing is annoying but you should try this : 1# delete SP2 from your computer. This is service pack 2. Now put the cd into your computer and turn the computer off. Now turn the computer back on and it should start reading from the disk and extracting files. If it dosnt do this restart your pc and when its turning on make sure it reads from the dvd before the HDD. So back to the extracting part, follow the prompts until you delete your current OS and reinstall. If you have any further enquiries please feel free to email me at angus_930@msn.com

that just means that the cd with win xp does not have updates or service pack 2 on it. you need to put the disk in the drawer and reboot. it will start from the cd and lead you through several sets of instructions. one window will give you the option to format. do it then it will lead you through the rest of the install. usually takes 30-45 mins for it to finish.
