Yahoo games is a good opertunity to get games in. The beginnners lounges would have your abbility level. Becarful, of the many porn pushers, monitor your son if he goes.
I'd say play your son, if he beats you, you'll both be getting something out of it. You may never be good at it but you can nurish your son's talent.
Chess is the greatest game ever! Numerous books have been writtin, but many are hard to understand. "better chess" and "Bobby Fisher teaches chess" are a couple of my favorite books.
Good luck and enjoy the journey in a game that can be enjoyed by elm kids to adult grand masters. Simple and complex at the same time...Sort of like life.

There's no way like actually playing to learn! That's how I learned, from playing with my dad. Yahoo chess online is great, because it does not let you make any wrong moves! It won't stop you from making moves that will hurt the player's game, but it provides the fundamentals.

I don't know about web sites, but you can buy a CD called Chessmaster 9000. It will give instructions for beginners to more advanced players. It also gives you a chance to play with players that are on the CD. It goes from beginner level players to master or grandmaster level players. It's a very good CD for learning the game on your own and for playing games when no one else is around.
