To be honest, all I know is what I have read in the papers. I don't think I know enough about the actual people to make an educated decision.

I think Iran is a country that is on a misguided direction. I believe that they are trying to develope nuclear weapons, and trying to flex their political and military muscle. I think the Iranian people are most likely just average people. I certainly have nothing against them as a people, and nothing against thier country, though I certainly do not agree with the direction Iran is going as a country. I live in the US, and I'm pretty damn sure I'm speeking for everyone here when I say I hope the current conflict can be solved without military action, though I know neither the Iranian government nor ours will shy away from action if we cannot find another solution.

Iranians: A people with a great history and culture. The people are not that much different than any other people in the world - the same day-to-day worries and triumphs in their lives as any other people.

Iran: The country of Iran is seen in the eyes of the world as a reflection of the attitudes and goals of the people chosen to lead the country. The fact that the leaders at the present time advocate the destruction of another country and appear to want to develope nuclear weapons leads to great suspicion of their intentions. The further fact that they seem to want to hide their activities leads to greater suspicion. It is a fact that the world's oil supply is limited and eventually will be gone. The world must find other sources of electrical power and power for transportation, etc. I could understand if Iran was considering this in wishing to build nuclear reactors for power, but the president that Iran has at this time does not give the impression of being that far-sighted.

The western media has been feeding the english-speaking world with news and editorials from their viewpoints - be hard to see Iran and its people in a positive light. However I have doubts that a theocracy can be progressive for Iranians; and in view of its reported activities such as sponsoring militant and insurgent groups outside the country, its animosity to Israel, Iran must be perceived as a threat to regional stability. How else can one think?

Iranians are essentially Persians and their greatest inheritance is the Persian culture and tradition. There is much to be admired in their arts, architecture, poetry and the like.
Quite apart from the current political situation in Iran (i.e. the fact that it is to some extent a Theocracy), the people of Iran are like people anywhere... there are those who are warm and friendly... those who are reserved and shy... those who are narrow minded and prejudiced...
there's nothing there to mark them out as being different from the rest of humanity.
