In addition to all the correct answers about it being painful to the cow NOT to have the milk removed (and twice a day, too), cows can develop an infection in their udders called mastitis from backed-up milk. I can't stand PETA people and others who think it's cruel to milk cows. It's crueler not to!!!

Cows can produce up to 10 gall. of milk a day. If the milk was not taken from them, they would be in a lot of pain.

Have you seen a commercial dairy nowadays? It is a relief for cows to be drained of that milk. How would you like to be carrying around 50 pounds of milk in your boobies half the day?

It may hurt, who knows? If it does, the cow is used to it. Have you ever seen a calf vigorously nudge and poke its mother's UDDER with its nose, telling her he wants to nurse? Somebody told me that this is supposed to encourage milk flow, but I don't know if that's true.
