It is a combination of answers 1 & 2. If you only bothered to work hard, then you would only get as far as others want you to be. This height of success can obviously be rewarding, but it sounds to me as if you would enjoy being on top at some point. Don't be afraid to work the system a little bit, because they are certainly working you.

Yeah work smart not hard and you should be good to go. Unless you want an extreme amount of money then that takes a lot of luck and being in the right place and the right time.

Well I've been waiting for destiny, I'm also trying hard work so my next option would probably be bad things followed by cheating!!

Lower your expectations. You don't NEED 75% of the things you want. Our whole economy is based on spending money on "unnecessary" items. Get the things that you feel you can't live without and spoil yourself every now and then. YOU WILL ADAPT and get used to having less things.
