I am a A+ certified technician
Its a problem with the bios being corrupted!
On later models of the thinkpad you have to replace the motherboard but seem that a bios upgrade acan be preformed on the T21 T22 models to repair.

Link to T22 lenovo support for this error code
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-44186

You must have access to the internet from another computer and go to the IBM support website ....you will have to put in your model # to get to the download area for your computer and download the latest bios update .
create the bios update boot disk
boot youir laptop with it
follow the instructions
Caution!!!!
Make sure your battery's are charged and you are plugged in to the ac outlet...a power down during a bios upgrade is usually only fixable by system board replacement.

Good Luck

I've seen some repair estimates at 160 bucks for the power problem.

Is this the full text of the error: 0175: BAD CRC1, STOP POST TASK

How many times to the LED status lights flash when you try to start?
They should flash 1 or 2 times. If they are flashing more, then probably the power supply has failed.
...
The error usually means a problem with the power supply. If you let the pc sit after a failed startup, it should not do anything but sit there. If the screen goes black or it self-restarts etc, then the power supply is bad. You may have a damaged board now, but the power supply has to be fixed before it is safe to replace the board or repair it if possible.
;-D Old PC's never die, they just drive you nuts.

PPS. jeffster301 is right, but what happened to corrupt the bios? Usually this is a power problem during startup. You can replace a corrupt bios, but if the problem was caused by a power fluctuation, it will just happen again.

PS. Check out the new Intel MacBooks before you spend a dime on that thinkpad...
