St. Paul the convert, formerly known as Saul of Tarsus, the zelous jew who hated the Christians. Saul persecuted Christians arresting and murdering them as he went from city to city with his Roman prefect escort. On the road to Damascus, Jesus presented himself to him but in the process, to show his power, blinded Saul. The purpose was to show God's forgiving nature because he sent a loyal follower, Ananais (sp?) to seek out Saul and restore his vision. Upon recieving his vision, Saul learned more about Christ the savior and then converted to Christianity and changed his name to Paul.

He spent the rest of his days writing letters to the Romans, Jews, and Gentiles and traveling around spreading the good news of the Lord to anyone who would listen. The rains had set out to drown him, right from the start, but he fought a good fight. He converted many people to Christianity and through the power of Christ, healed many of the sick and crippled people he came into contact with.

Paul was sent to prison 3 times, and on his third time, upon refusing to forsake the Lord his God, the Romans put him to death by beheading him.

How Did Apostle Paul Die

Many here seem to be confusing St. Paul with St. Peter (legend has it that St. Peter was crucified upside down.)
The usual account of St. Paul's death is that, as a Roman citizen, he was beheaded instead (the "more merciful" way to go.)

If you're referring to the biblical St. Paul, tradition holds that he was beheaded in Rome during Nero's reign.

Paul was not crucified that was Peter! Eusebius, the 4th century bishop of Caesarea who is often called the first Church historian, records that the apostle Paul was executed in Rome during the persecution of the emperor Nero.

He was beheaded. Peter was crucified upside down.

He was crucified upside down. I don't think it was his choice. I think it was THEIR choice. To be killed on the cross was to say you were the lowest of the low basically. To then put the cross upside down was to actually say you were even LOWER.
