I'll give u 2 true stories:
1... A man was taking an evening walk on the beach with his friend, when they stumbled on a guy beating his wife. The good samaritan tried to stop the fight while his ever ignorant friend walked away. The guy just turned away from his wife and punched the guy for tryn 2 help and a fight broke out. The battered wyf kept biting the guy who tryed 2 help her and kept screaming "leave my husband alone". My brotha was there and witnessed the whole event.
2..two yrs ago a friend of mine went to the ATM machine to draw cash. There were three boys drawing cash in the booth. Outside was a line of about six guys. They told the security guard to play along and he would get a cut. The security guard tells the boys 2 to put their card back in the card slot knowing they will trust him. As the boy reached out, my friend shouted and warned they were gonna be robbed. The robbers got mad and chased my friend into a nearby hotel. The hotel security did'nt even try to stop the robbers. She asked the receptionist to call the cops and she said "it's gonna be on yo bill if i call them, u'll have to pick up the tab". How stupid could she have been cause here in South africa u dial 10111 and even 5 year old kids know it's a toll free number, there is no bill to pay.
Now if u were to tell me to get involved in any situation I would tell u 2 "go 2 hell".

It's a sad world. I still try to help when I see people need it- like a mother trying to carry a stroller up or down stairs or if someone dropped their grocery bag or something. I want to be a role model for my son so that he will learn to be a good samaritan too.
But there is a caveat also- sometimes people don't want the help you think they do. Sometimes, if I get a funny feeling- even though it looks like the person needs help- I hesitate before I do anything. There have been times when I offered help and it was refused with irritation. So that has made me a little more cautious in offering help. Maybe that's what stops others too.

because in this day and age
to go and help someone who is being assaulted or whatever means putting your life on the line
the amount of ppl carrying knives and dare i say it guns even (in uk) is astonishing
its a safer bet and even advised by police to phone them instead of getting involved

What a sweeping generalization, I think many people still do try to help others, I know I do whenever I can!

We fear consequenses.
IE - Man falls down having heart attack.
Passer by stops and does CPR. Man dies. Man's family sue Passer by.
Sad, but sign of the times.

The others hit it on the head; that is, the fear of being sued for helping.
