If you want to be an actress then go for it shyness can be overcome

Nope! Firstly, there are parts written for shy people. Secondly, you may just not have experience. If you just try to put together a routine or read a monolouge in front of a few people, you gain experience, which in the long run, helps you with acting. Thirdly, just because you're the shyest girl in school doesn't mean you'll always be shy. As you grow up, you may gain life experience which will steer away shyness. And PS, on a note from experience, never think about what you're doing in acting, just do it.

While I am not a girl, I do identify with your question. As a previous poster stated, acting is a wonderful way to 'come out of your shell.' I was incredibly shy and bashful until I started to participate in theatre. Even many celebrities say that they once were bashful, etc.

It seems that some of the most talented actors and actresses were once shy or had some social introversion. Speaking from personal experience, shy people really have to work at acting in theatre but I think we can value it more since it doesn't come easily.

I'm not knocking those with natural talent, but I do realize that those without a natural ability at theatre often describe their experiences more deeply, etc.

Good luck!!!

I know that this has been said, but the more support the better. Usually the best actors are the outgoing people in school, however, some of my friends who are really shy and easily embarassed, come out of their shell when they are on stage

I always loved acting because you can put a little bit of urself in ur character, while still being someone completely different thatn urself. Its a good way to get away from ur flaws and limitations and experience the greatness that is the stage!

was that a little to dramatic? lol nvm this is about theatre

Not at all!

Several of the most interesting actors and actresses I know are shy or very private people. It actually seems to give a special "spark" to their acting.

Many people in the theatre are... well... "theatrical." They are "on stage" a lot of the time which gives them a little bit of ease when they are actually on stage, but doesn't always give them an advantage in performing.

Theatrically speaking, of course, if a character is shy, it is usually an indication of wanting to be involved. That can also be the case in life.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is to be yourself and honor who you are -- you have the advantage of being able to bring this experience into your acting. That's not something that many people will have. Have fun on your journey!

Not at all. I used to act all the time and I'm one of the shyest people I know. Acting is a great way to get rid of that shyness. Trust me on that.

No, it merely means it wil ltake some practice and hard work, a lot of people actually take up acting to improve their self confidence and how they appear to other people it is not just for the outgoing eccentrics. If you keep at it you will become less nervous and develop until you will no longer be as shy as you started out.

No in fact many people who are incredibly shy or quiet have awesome acting abilities. I know a man who stutters really bad, but when he's onstage, you could never tell that he had a speech difficulty. Sometimes people feel very comfortable onstage than off. Give it a shot and get involved with a local community theatre or a drama club.

Not at all! I find acting to be an outreach to expose my outgoing self and release my stress. I'm an outcast myself but my life is screwy in a way which makes my acting even more impactful especailly anger/sad scenes.

You'll do great acting! Good luck and have fun on the way!

No way! Go for it, I want to be a famous flute player like Jethro Toll, Some people think I am way too shaky..... I shake like a leaf when we do solos, but I know that I can get over shaking , just like you can get over being Shy. So, give it all it takes and someday you will be famous.

I agree that it isn't stupid at all. MANY professional actors are among the shiest people you will ever meet. Just follow your heart and do what you want to do no matter what other people may say. It's your life!
