The guy said he was a Scot and would not be supporting England through the World Cup, it was even reported he would be cheering on who ever we played.

Today, his Manager/spokesman at Wimbledon claimed he's British obviously to get the English on his side.

Year after year the English support the Scots, Welsh and Irish in sport and other events.(unless we're playing them of course)

Should we really be spending one second of our time supporting this guy when we get nothing in return?

I am Scottish and have been supporting England all throughout the world cup and will continue to do so. However , I have no time for small minded people who still believe there is rivalry between scot's and english - so I will not b supporting Andy Murray if the above comments are true

See the thing is, when it comes to football where there is an English team, everyone has the right to choose whether or not to support them. Get over it, it's his choice.

However, with Wimbledon, it's not England, Scotland or whatever. It's individual players, and the only events that I'm aware of where tennis players represent any country is the Olympics and Davis Cup - and the country Murray would represent then is Great Britain, not Scotland.

So choose not to support Murray if you want. But his nationality has nothing to do with it because if he is representing a country, as far as Wimbledon is concerned, it's Great Britain.

If the women's curling team that won gold in the Winter Olympics in Atlanta said that they don't support England, would you be inclined not to support them at the next Winter Olympics when they represent Great Britain? Or the cyclist Chris Hoy? Or the swimmer Caitlin McClatchey?

No way. If the Scots don't support England and beat up England fans, the English should not support the Scots either.

Murray has called the LTA a waste of space and moved to Barcelona, now he wants £500k a year of Engish Money from Wimbledon to pay for a coach.

Personally I don't even think he is very good at tennis anyway.

Why does anyone get bent out of shape about who or what team you support.

Have we all got such a low national self esteem that we have to keep going through this crap about who is supporting who and who says they are not.

Support a team because you want to not because of whether other people tell you it is the thing to do. I have a lot more time for the successes of individuals than I do for "national" entries ... to get hung up on the nationality of an individual is pretty pathetic.

BTW you may be an exception but the phrase "Year after year the English support the Scots" is not representative of the masses on either side.

Remember Andy is still very immature, and has a lot to learn. Its a shame that like most Scots he is deeply jealous of England having any form of success.

I hope he does his very best at Wimbledon and gives the viewers an interesting game to watch.

British/Scottish, he will be our best chance to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in the 1930s. I know he (Murray) does not like supporting England but we should support him.

Okay...here's the thing...I don't think who you support is such a big deal. I am American and support Roger Federer in every single tournament...so? Maybe for Andy Murray, since he hasn't hit the all time high in tennis, he needs support...but if you get nothing from him, then you should just keep going until you both benefit from your support.

Good answer tokay but yes I think it would be hard to support a team or person representing Great Britain if they actively say they hated the English and part of what is Great Britain!!! They after all are participating in and for a Team they Hate if they say they dont support one part of it and would seem to me to be pointless to compete for a team you didnt support!
