I agree with you totally. I was raped when I was 15 by a 15 yr old he went to ydc he originaly got 7 yrs. The whole time he was in jail he wrote to me telling me that when he got out he would kill me and any one I was with and if I had kids he'd kill them to. Cause I was his and know one else's. He was sick in the head and it was obviouse that jail did'nt bother him. It is now 11years later and he is in a mental hospital indefainatly. It was not the prison system that made him relise what he'd done was wrong. But my partner at the time and his friends my partner did something knowing he would go to jail for it and that there was a 99% chance he would be put in the same place as this lad and he was. He put him in the hospital 6 times. The lad was in and out of jail a lot after that i don't know what for but every time he was there would be someone in there who new me and what he'd done and every time he was beat up. Until eventually he cracked up. So you see they never learn jail is just a free holiday to most. So yes the death penalty should be brought back or send them to labs to be experimented on instead of poor defenceless animals.

The problem is that while the crimes are indeed horrendous, the criminal justice system is far from perfect. There are many instances of criminals avoiding conviction and punishment and too many cases of innocent people being punished and their lives destroyed for crimes they didn't commit.

The death penalty is irreversible and final; any mistakes by the criminal justice system mean that the state is sanctioning the murder of innocent people. It is to avoid this terrible possibility that the death penalty was abolished.

It is also hoped that even hideous criminals can be reformed or cured and can go on to contribute in a positive way to their countries and in some ways make amends for the harm they have done, which they cannot if they are dead. This sounds rather Utopian, but it is a fine ideal.

Some very sick criminals need to be locked away as they are a danger to society; some can be treated. I agree that it is horrendous when known dangerous offenders are allowed to go free only to commit new crimes.

Something needs to be done as prison is not a deterant. They live better than some law abiding citizens do ! Three meals a day and TV, access to a gym and the latest equipment, training, a roof over their head rent free !!
I don't know that the death penalty is the answer as they then get off without suffering - they should be imprisoned the way prisons used to be - oh but we can't do that can we because of human rights !! But who's human rights should be considered the victim or the rapist/paedophile, etc ?
I think we consider the criminal before the victim; they are given a life sentence so the criminal should be given one too but LIFE should mean LIFE and it shouldn't be a life of luxury !!
The debate goes on ...............

castration has been given as an answer, this does not work, its not a sexual urge, but a psychological phenomena. The problem with the death penalty is the times that innocents are targeted - remember the paediatrician who was targeted in the 'Sarah's Law' campaign ('cos of the 'paed' in the title, or the Guildford 4, or Birmingham 6? Treatment is effective in 1% of cases, so there's still lots of people out there who are actively looking to commit offences. The Sex Offenders Register does not work as it's only paper and not action. We need good, robust, emotionless debate with limited information sharing between agencies to keep track of these people and their activities. Another issue is that rapists and child sexual abusers are differently motivated, so a 'one size fits all' approach would be very ineffective.

i couldnt have said it better myself!
how comes these sick ba$tards are getting lighter sentences? if its proven then what the hell are we doing allowing them to breathe and contaminate any of our air....
Definately agree with you 100%, only hanging them is to much of a quick & easy way of dying...perhaps we could do something like inject them with a deadly disease, a disease that takes a few weeks to die from but in the most horrible painful way possible-and obviously we go nowhere near them and we dont ease the pain for them....we could inflict more i think! Then when thats underway, we can save a few to test all the bleaches, acids, shampoo's etc that people currently test on animals, guarantee there would be a long line of people that would have volunteered there help by administrating stuff in to the sicko's eye etc! Let the ba$tards die the most painful way possible.....maybe then, other nonces wont even try anything....cos when they get caught, it will happen to them.

Im never usually such a violent person....but these vvankers deserve nothing except a long drawn out painful death.

Do you think i got my point across ok?!

Death Penalty is something every nation should have. why? because God allows death penalty! The "law of the land" however, should be specific on what "heinous" crimes this death penalty should be applied. Its not that a person who committed the "heinous" crime is incorrigible.... but its because the crime commited was "heinous" and beyond "human" forgiveness by the victim's relatives... those who are against death penalty will only agree in this kind of reasoning when they themselves will be the victim... hope not!

Well, I love in the US where we have the death penalty in many states (mine included), and I have two problems with it. 1) it takes too long with too many appeals to carry it out. 2) they don't apply it to enough or the right crimes.

If some one commits a heinous crime like child molestation, aggravated rape, premeditated murder, etc. They have broken their pact with our society, and I really don't see how they should have any rights in our society. You listen to some left wing cry babies... "their just mentally ill, they need out help!!" that B.S. their victims needed help, and we need them out of our society.

I personally think it should be up to the victims family if the perpetrator should be executed for repeat rapists, first time child molesters, or someone who commits premeditated murder. If the victims family doesn't want to execute them, then I think we should ship them off to an island where they can rot. Have a couple of PT boats circling to make sure they cannot leave. If they want to work together and form a working society, fine, I really don't care as long as they're gone.

The death penalty is too good for these freaks!! Take heart in knowing that in prison "diddlers" are dealt with in the most horrifying ways. There is no one thought less of in the joint and often suicide is the only escape.

I almost agree with you on this apart from one reason and that's Miscarriages of Justice.

Let's say you yourself were convicted today for a murder you didn't do and were put to death, it's a bit hard to bring you back 10yrs later when new eveidence comes to light.

Are you happy to be executed and your family live in shame for years so this law can come into force?

Those who believe in the death penalty should be made to actually carry out the execution, then if it turns out the convicted is innocent the person who carried out the execution should be convicted and sentanced to the death penalty for murder.
