How do you know that less surgeons have tattoos? Maybe the intelligent people who get tattoos are smart enough to get them in places where you cannot see them all of the time. You see them on the convicts more because they want you to. There are plenty of doctors, lawyers, scientists, etc that have tattoos. They just don't advertise them.

I'd say that anyone who says that yes they are is narrow minded and shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Of course there will be people with tattoos who are 'of below average intelligence' but that doesn't make it the golden rule! To categorise someone by their appearance shows a lack of intelligence on the part of the viewer. By behaving in such away, think how many opportunities in life someone may be missing out on by dismissing another person purely based on the way they look. It's just another form of discrimination, such as racism or sexism.

Funny that someone would mention tattoos and intelligence in the same sentence. I graduated high school 2 weeks before my 17th birthday (with Honors GPA), skipped from 3rd to 4th grade in one year, have a higher-than-average IQ, more common sense than most people......
And I have 10 tattoos and 6 piercings.
It's also funny that most of the people who are against tattoos and piercings have horrible spelling and grammar that make up their answers. IMO, they would rather point the hypocritical finger at someone else rather than take a closer, much needed look at themself.

Dr J say....how do you come to that statistic, did you spend research time in prisons and hospitals asking people to strip naked for you to check? from experience as a custom tattoo artist i'd say tattooed people in 2006 come from all walks of life and are in posession of widely varying levels of intelligence, most of my clients are professionals or definitely of above average intelligence as good custom tattoo costs a lot of cash, slow people generally don't earn much.. on a personal note i'm half covered and also extremely smart...
hence th name Dr J tattoo!

I think there is a pretty wide spectrum as far as intelligence and having a tatoo. I think a lot of convicts get them in jail out of boredom. Its probably has more to do with up bringing than intelligence.

It depends on the type of tattoo - if you're talking about blue ink prison tatts, then you're probably right. However, I do take exception to the generalisation - I have 11 tattoos and an IQ in the region of 150.

Thats stereotyping - maybe most surgeons have tattoos under their clothes.
People have tattoos because they want to, not because they want to warn others of their stupidity

Absolutely.
I would suppose that you're talking about averages, statisics and stuff.
And I'd say, on average, you go into any restaurant in the USA, those people are going to be fatter than other Americans... on averge of course.

Some people see their skin as an artist's canvas - or maybe they just get a peculiar kick out of inflicting pain on themselves!
