HA! This issue won't die....too much crying....sour grapes. Where were you when the Italians got the red card? No way was a red card deserved there. But, the Italian defense suffocated the Aussies. Now when they were in the box, Lucas Neill slid in front of Grosso. WHY ON EARTH would Neill go down on the ground in the box. Stupid, stupid move! Any contact would have looked deliberate by going down in the box. The referee made the right call. You are just crying sour grapes now. Get over it! Forza Italia!

It's high time the big football countries will give chance to small growing countries. That yesterday match was a total cheating to Australians. The referee was a mess and rubbish.

In the first half of the game...an Italian player was taken off the field because he accidentaly ran into a Soccoroo with his leg. It was a red card...and it should have been a yellow. The Italian team played with a man short the first half. The Australians were given the game on a silver platter and still didn't score the first half. Italy is a higher ranked team...and they didn't score either. The refs were off the call on both of these occasions...against Italy and against Australia...maybe in the cosmic universe it evens out. I think that the penalty shot given against Australia was unfair....and I would have loved to see Australia win...it is history now.

Agreed. Lucas Neill should be blamed and not the referee. He went down stupidly, got a piece of Grosso, and he did make a meal of it. I'm Italian, and I still hate to see it. I've seen players from every country do it time and time again. You cannot classify countries as 'divers' or 'actors'. I've seen everyone from Wayne Rooney to Ronaldinho to Michael Ballack dive. Every player dives...at least once in a while...unless their name is Roy Keane!
And by the way, to the comment earlier about Italy HAVING to make it the quarters. You should probably take a time out, and start catching up on your soccer history for implieing that...as Italy was beaten in the round of 16 last World Cup. (Cheated by the hometown Koreans! Don't believe me? Ask anyone who is Spanish or a neutral football fan!)
Bring on the Ukrainians!

The Aussies were not unlucky, they were robbed big time without a shred of doubt. It was a fix game and there is nothing the Aussies were going to do to turn the wheels around.

It's history now. We know the Italians. But the referee was probably tied of the Aussies not living up to his prodding.
Can you blame him?
He is just human and the Italians?
They are the best Crock in the world. Don't forget!

sure, that pen didnt really look like a pen... but the defender went down and if you look carefully.... you'll see see Lucas Neil's left shoulder movement as he is on the floor which caused his forearm to clip grosso's foot.... needless to say the italian player made the most of it...... very clever!!!
as for aussies being unlucky.... i dont think so..... they were quite rubbish.... italia played quite well and created good chances but aussies were very poor...... plus italians had a man sent off (xtrmly harsh)........ and they wouldv quite convincingly won 1-0 (as they always do) if the ref hadnt made that blunder!!!
so mayb overll the justice was done and the right team progressed through
i'd rather watch italia-ukraine match then see australia play out another lacklustre lifeless draw with ukraine.....
good bye n good riddence aussies n swiss..... there is no need for boring football

Lucky or unlucky, Italy was still the better team and deserved to go thru even if they'll probably lose to Germany in the semi.
If the Aussie had won, they'll probably think they'll trash Englang too. It's all about 'self-believe', innit?

It was bad again........the ref shouldnt decide the game. The red against italy was wrong also. You can argue that the play was a foul, but in a scoreless game with seconds to go, you DONT make that call, you play on and let them try to decide it on the field. Both teams had ample oppty to score during regular time, but each couldnt get the job done.

Not at all,in football it's all about doing something spectacular to win a game, greats have done it before like Maradona,Best,Franz,Cruyff you can name them,so if a referee is caught off-guard thats the beauty of the whole game,it happens in all contact sports and thats why we love it.If you expect to win a ball game thenyou have to try to win it anyway you can, trash talking, hard tackling and even injury faking it's all in the game my friend.
