Well, you could judge for yourself with this piece of information that Reliance (Mukesh Ambani Group) is coming in a big big way in chain retail stores, perhaps putting in the biggest investment so far in India. (in collaboration with DLF Group - not very sure about this point!).

well india is going global and retail is now booming in most metros of india, in the next few years with ambani supermarkets coming in i think these general stores will be out of business or catering to low class people only

in India people don't stock things up .. even middle class used..to shop evefyday for every day groceries..
if Indian standard of lviing ..increases with the same pace.. we can see these grocery stores..getting vanished... due to amny factor.s..

these local general stores will be confines to sales of smaller packs and daily necessaties like breads and eggs.the sales will drip sharply and it will be tough for them to survive.
