In actual fact, Switzerland were eliminated from proceedings without conceding a goal FROM OPEN PLAY - that is not a penalty, free kick or corner. And YES, that is a record.
They also hold the record for being the only team in World Cup history to FAIL TO SCORE during a penalty shoot-out. Two records for the Swiss there in ONE competition!

it's unique but SWISS plays handball. Look at how many times their defense just stick their arms out and bat the ball out of the box. NO wonder they didn't concede any goals. Plus they got Sepp "the-******-who-tried-to-push-Swiss-into-round of 8" Blatter who paid tons of money to the refs just so that Swiss would win. But too bad u can't disallow a penalty shootout. I'm so happy Swiss lost I'm exhilarated. May Swiss NEVER win another World Cup game EVER, EVER again

It is the first time this has happened. Yes it is unique, do not listen to some of the others, penalty kicks is not counted as a goal, that is why the scorer is not credited with them

In a way yes. The match was decided on Penalties (3-0) after either side failed to score during the normal 90 mins+ 30 mins added time.

that is the first time it has ever happened so yes it is unique. and to comment on that earlier comment that penalty goals count. ummmm, actually they dont count. ofcourse they are needed to win the shootout but thats it. the final score for example would be...teamA 0 - teamB 0 (pen. 3-1)
so they tied zero to zero and team A won 3 goals to 1 in the penalty shoot out

I think it is...considering the faced some tough opponents, and I think it is a feat to be proud of considering a team like Brazil conceded goals and they did not.
