The poor would be able to drive to work again...they might be able to get a tank of gas....too bad congress didn't think they needed it..they gave a tax break to the top 3% wealthiest families in America the same day the turned down a raise in minimum wage and the raise was only to $6 anyway...

It would do the same thing that it does now.
Cause inflation
Eliminate jobs (half the people at min wage jobs get fired)
it will be harder for companies that have built a plan around low cost labor go out of business.
If the Minimum wage is so good then why don't we raise it to $100 an hour?
Where in the Constitution does it say that the government can tell employers what to do with their money any way?

The minimum wage is not the only factor concerning inflation and the "cost of living". However, raising it by that much in a short amount of time would certainly impact both in a negative way.
Unemployment is the indicator that typically calls for a raise. When unemployment reaches all time lows, the minimum wage can usually be increased with little impact on the economy as long as it is raised to a responsible level. Higher wages usually results in less jobs at first, and inflation usually increases at a faster rate for several years afterwards.
There's a lot more at play than I think some are aware of.

Some people would have a couple more dollars in their pocket. It is still below poverty for a family of 4!
Oh please with the business BS! They don't pay any taxes anyway. And most small business owners don't pay them either!
Free enterprise doesn't mean that labor is free. Without them you would have a BIG ZERO!! Time that employees got some of you off our backs!
I didn't see Congress not accept their $3,400 payraise this year, but they refused to boost minimum wage by a lousy 2 bucks!!
If you gav them a payraise you think things would go up?? EVERYTHING HAS!!!! And it is the rich who are getting all the tax cuts. Mostly to the top 1 percent!!
You going to let business screw you forever?
You know that minimum wage has not been raised in over a decade!! I wonder what their $5.25 can buy these days! That's 8$866.00 a month before taxes and social security are taken out. Can any of you live on $466.00 a month?

lay offs, homelessness, inflation, starvation, loss of medical benefits, nationwide joblessness, another Great Depression. Our dollar is already barely Worth the cost of the printing of it. The mega-corporations all view labor as it's biggest cost. Why do you think Walmart limits it's employees to 32 hours a week? That would really be stupid to raise the minimum wage under the present economic system we have now. If you want to make more money, get an education or a useful trade and work, work, work.

Those on welfare would suddenly see that getting paid to work makes more money than sitting home. I mean, right now why would you go to work at some crappy job for $5.15/hour when you can sit on your *** for $12.00/hour?
The chain reaction of wages going up across the board would bump a lot more people into the "tax payer" category, turning non-tax paying citizens into taxpayers.
Next up, the economy...more wages means more money into the hands that spend it all! Yes folks, every dime spent on labor at the low end of the scale equals DIRECT contributions to the local economy. Its not like the bottom feeders have stock portfolios or IRA's to sink all that extra cash into, they need to buy better beer, more diapers, and put gas into their tanks. The rich still get richer with a higher minimum wage, don't worry.

supply & demand would happen. Companies working on low wage business models would fire half their employees to get more efficient & most of those would still go out of business. Those jobs that still need to be done would be shipped overseas, and the ones locked to here (like say resteraunt dish washers) would instantly become illegal alien positions where they work for a couple hundred a week. Basically the same exact thing that's happebing right now, only ramped up a bit. More americans on welfare, economy goes down, rich get richer, poor stay slaves. Basic economics is pretty simple stuff.

Maybe people would actually want to work the "crappy" jobs that don't pay anything. Maybe some teenagers would actually take our advice and go work instead of selling dope. Heck, they make more in a night than I do in two weeks. I make way more than min. wage too. We're still working on a "living wage" where I live. Yeah, let's pay people just enough to get by on, not enough to actually afford a car, nice clothes, things they actually want. I'll stop now before I really get going.

Whenever people get more money, they go more into debt. They can raise the minimum wage all they want, it won't make much of a difference.
