A more generic term would be a " sequential gearbox "
These gear boxes have multiple clutch plates. There is a mechanism which will disengage the clutch and shift the gear for you and then probably put the second clutch back on the fly wheel, thus resulting in Milli-second gear changes.

These gear changes are so quick, they could cause you neck - pain at high speeds. Your neck keeps going back and forth every time you signal a gear change to the gearbox.

Its a marvel.
