Mostly, u have 2 check the type of ram supported by both computers. Most recent compiters support DDRII RAM Technology which supports DDR one RAMs. But if the old memory is SDRAM, it might not be suppoted by the newer laptop. A DDR one RAM will mostly be supported by new ACERs and DELLs.
Next time, if u need help through such an open community, where no one knows any thing bout ur laptop, better specify the laptop model number, or mention the main features such as the RAM type and size.

Not enough information to tell. I have ram that works perfectly in my acer laptop that won't work in my acer laptop.
Get the idea? If I have an old acer 386, the ram from it won't work in my P4 acer. We would need SPECIFIC model numbers etc to even attempt to answer this question. With the information you have given, it's simply impossible to say.

You need to see what type of memory it is and the speed. It's not about the brand.
Tiger Direct and New Egg are the best places to find RAM for cheap.
