There's not a *lot* he can do. But maybe one of these suggestions will help...

First of all, be retested. The test could have been wrong, or it may have just been a bad day for sperm. Wait at least a week between tests.

If it is, in fact, low, give up bad habits--drinking, smoking, drugs, etc. This won't help *most* men, but it does sometimes.

Keep cool. The testicles are located outside the main body cavity for a reason. They need an environment that is a bit cooler than body temperature to work effectively. If the guy wears tight underwear or pants, switching to looser clothing may help. If he likes really hot showers, switching to warm could, too. And if he spends lots of time in a hot environment, that could also cause reduced sperm production. I have seen the recommendation to wear an ice bag near the scrotum if he can't avoid the heat...

He can try taking a multivitamin with lycopene or taking lycopene supplements.

He can try FSH injections (these are used in idiopathic male infertility) - these, obviously, must be prescribed by a doctor.

There are no known "cures" for low sperm count. Usually, a urologist tries to determine the cause of the low sperm count and then treats it if it is treatable (e.g, caused by varicocele). Otherwise, frequently intrauterine insemination (IUI), IVF or IVF with ICSI is recommended.

- Take a daily iron supplement with orange juice. The vitamin C in the juice helps the body absorb the iron.

- Drink tea made from dogwood flowers (Cornus officinalis) every morning and Raspberry leaf tea each night

- Eat organic fruit and vegetables (at least five servings a day)

- If he smokes or drinks, stop both. Smoking is the leading cause of fertility issues in both men and women and alcohol affects sperm motility (movement)

- Avoid cycling

- Wear loose-fitting underwear and trousers

Really there isn't much he can do. He can try the standards, such as loose fitting boxers, less alcohol consumption, vitamins and staying away from hot tubs.....but typically there isn't much that can be done for it. :(
