Just use the pill, i have been using it for years, never got pregnant and had no side effects. there are side effects, things like weight gain and slightly increased risk of breast cancer. So many woman use it and have no problems. the nurse will monitor you whilst you are on it, like checking your blood pressure and ask questions to check that it is right for you.

The most effective form of birth control is abstinance. If you are worried about side effects then the condom is your best bet, although I have recently been told by a gp that they only recommend the condom against sti's, not pregnancy as it is not reliable enough due to people's tendancy to use them incorrectly. As for drugs there are many different types of pill (eg. Celeste, mycrogynon......etc), the pill injection (depo prtovera), the implant (implanon) or devices such as the coil (mirena) To get a better idea you should discuss it with your gp or a nurse at your local sexual health clinic. They will discuss side effects with you, and should you have problems they will usually try to find an alternative medication.

I use the depo provera injection. This is a progesterone injection, injected deep into the buttock muscle every 12-14 weeks by a doctor or nurse. It is as effective as the pill but being injected, it means that you don't have to remember to take a pill every morning. It has the added bonus side affect of stopping periods all together. An unpleasant side affect can be increased appetite that can lead to weight gain, however if you continue to eat sensibly it won't cause weight gain.

There are several different birth control pills on the market. You will need to see an OBGYN and discuss with them which one is best for you. Just remember pills do not prevent STD's and they are not 100% effective. You will still need to use a condom.
