You would have to get some new hardware, which could be very costly. A cheaper way would be to get a Flash drive. I use mine for files I don't access very often so I don't always carry it.

Do you mean hard drive space or RAM.
RAM will not cause your files to go missing.
Pulling out the old hard drive and putting a new one in will. The simplest solution is to backup the hard drive over your network. Next plug the new hard drive in. Reinstall all your software. Download the files back onto your computer over your network that you backed up previously.

By the way, if your backup computer doesn't have enough space to put all your files on it is possible to plug in your hard drive into your desktop PC, but it requires a cheap connector that converts the small size connector to the large size connector. In any case usually your laptop won't have enough room inside to plug in two hard drives.

Upgrade your laptop's memory to 2GB of RAM.

*One more tip: Delete all the unnecessary files (not usable but innecessarily taking up space&memory) by using the disk clean up wizard.

Hope this will helps you!

If you are trying to increase the memory as in the amount of ram that your laptop has, you dont have anything to worry about. It will not effect the contents of your harddrive at all.

Please don't call hard drive space "memory".. That term is reserved for RAM, which has nothing to do with long term storage of your software.
if you want to add hard disk capacity (say from 30GB to 60GB) without losing your data, take it to a shop which can "ghost" or "image" your old drive to a larger replacement drive.
I still suggestbackingup any important documents.

Don't run so many programs at once, every program that's running is taking up a certain amount of ram, check using the task manager.

buy more RAM for it, take it to your local PC shop and let them check it out for you.

beware - laptop RAM costs double what normal PC RAM costs so be prepared to fork out lots of money.
