ya you are right. grossi in final minuts inside the astralian penalty area pushed the ball to other side and then willingly ran over the fallen defender, to earn a penalty kick in the end thats not the game. when you can change the direction of the ball why can't you change your direction. and moreever footballers are trained to change direction while running with ball. thats really samefull and poor reffering.

If anyone actually watched the game, they would see that as soon as there was 'contact' the ref pointed to the spot. So all this talk about how Grosso went down 'injured' waiting for the call is completely untrue. This will go on for a million years because Australia will most likely never get that far again, but, the defenders job is to touch the ball, not slide right past it. Why would you hit the pitch, in the 92nd minute? In my mind, it was a bad call (as was the red card in the first half), but it was an absolutely ridiculous tackle, that Neill should've never made.

Had Harry Kewell been on...I'm sure he would've done the same thing...I've seen him do it a hundred times!

I agree that maybe it should not have been a penalty. Grosso could have jumped over! But the decision he made, although unfair, was the right one. He convinced the referee that it was a foul, received a penalty and they won. That is the aim of soccer, to win. Sometimes its fair, sometimes it;s not, it can go either way.

For instance sending off Materazzi so early in the game was also an unfair call as far as I'm concerned. You win some, you lose, some are gifts and some are not, that's how the game of soccer works and that is why so many people are attracted to it. Nothing is ever definite, which makes the game all the more intriguing

Grossi without doubt deliberately fell down after he went past Neil. Every conceivable view of that incident will emphasis it. Conversely, he stayed down feigning insult and injury & waiting for the Ref's verdict. The Ref fell for it & awarded a penalty. The whole crowd of Aussie's & some Italians were entirely stunned & appalled at the Ref's decision. Italy went thru on default & the Ref should be stripped of his office!
It being the most shamefull display of deceipt on the football field I've witnessed!

I'm not an Aussie or an Iti, I'm a neutral Brit, & Italy's behaviour is nothing short of appalling, distasteful, and utterly shamefull to the good name of italy!

WE ALL ARE CHEATS IN THIS BEAUTIFUL WORLD. AND THATS HOW WE STILL SURVIVE...... I AGREE GROSSI COULD HAVE AVOIDED NEILL BY JUMPING OVER HIM BUT HE HAD HIS PART TO PLAY AS AN ACTOR. AND HE ACTED, JUST AS WE WATCH A DRAMA. BUT THE DIRECTOR, I MEAN THE REFEREE WAS WORST HE COULD HAVE AVOIDED AWARDING THE SPOT-KICK IN THE LAST SECONDS OF THE MATCH.
IN A WAY HE SHOWED THE WORLD THAT THE WEAK IS ALWAYS SURPRESSED AND THEY EUROPEANS ARE SUPERIOR IN THE WORLD.

I GIVE THE MATCH REFEREE A biig RED, RED CARD !!!

Yep, the Socceroos were robbed. If this is how many people think the game is played, where is the sportsmanship?
Italy won but can they celebrate a good win, I think not.
Aussies accept defeat however this one is not where I can say congratulations to Italy.

Hear hear! I agree. Even if he couldn't have avoided the Aussie, it was his momentum that made the Italian fall, not the defender. He took a chance, and won the call. Argh!!

Impressive :)
well, yes, he could have avoided him, but decide to trip over him.

and yes, it's a chance, just like when you have a goal without a goalie, it's you to decide, take the chance, or not taking it.

it's still fair, it's still football :)
