I have concert tickets but I found better seats. I need money to buy those instead, so can I sell the tickets I have now for more than I purchased them for? I have heard that this can be against the law, what do you think?

It may be legal to sell the tickets. This varies from state to state. For example, some states say you can only resell the ticket at face value, others impose a limit of 1-5 dollars, other states impose no limits. If you contact a licensed ticket broker, you may be able to sell your tickets through them. In addition, eBay ticket auctions are set up to ensure compliance with local laws, according to the eBay web site.

If you sell tickets for more than the printed ticket price, and are not an authorized ticket seller, you can be charged with "scalping". Try to sell the tickets to a local ticket company - if they are good seats, they will buy them from you.

Scalpers do that all the time. It's like...hmn... if you buy a blue ball and somehow everyone wants it... it's worth rises and because of that it is wise to sell it at a high price.

Same goes for the ticket in hand. If it's worth more than say the 35 dollars -- then if you want you can sell it for more.

CONGRADULATIONS!

You've waded into territory best resolved with competent legal council, and not just a bunch of schlubs online!

Since laws vary from state to state, and occasionally within the same state, you need to ask a lawyer for a solid answer.

In some states, anyone can resell tickets at profit.

In some states, only licensed ticket brokers can resell tickets at profit.

In some states, no one's permitted to resell tickets at profit.

It generally depends on the state that you live in on the particular guidelines, in NC for example you can only sell a ticket for an event for 3 dollars more then what you bought them for, legally. I would find out what the limits are for your state, checkout ticketmaster.com and see if there are any restrictions based on a venue in your state/prov.

Unfortunately. You're free to sell them on e-bay or to a friend for the printed price no problem. People do it all the time.

Making money like this is OK - even selling above the printed price is OK if you mention it while selling or auctioning.

If you are caught you can be fined, and the tickets you sold would be cancelled
