1. Referee was wrong, it wasn't a foul.
2. Grosso had passed 2 opponents in the box. I can't remember he had done anything as this in many years. Passing the second opponent he got 2 chances: jump over the prone man and shoot at the net from an excellent spot (not easy for a forward, really difficult for a defender as him); take a contact with the prone opponents, who can't avoid to block him with an obstruction foul. Instinctively he choose the second chance. I think he was right. If he really can pass opponents as Ronaldinho, the right choose had been the first.
3. Referee don't want to do mistake or to hurt Australians. Simply, he was wrong (and this really was a difficult judgment, watching the match I thought referee was right)
4. If really referee want to give a special help to Italy, he simply could avoid to sanction a crazy red card against Materazzi, who deserve a yellow. Before the red Italy has got many scoring chance and was playing so far better than Australia. Italy miss to score in the first half, Australia definitively failed to create scoring opportunities in the second half. So, between two great mistakes, red and penalty, the last was the ultimate.

Anyone who comes up with the idiotic idea of FIFA is trying to get all the big boys in is ******* retarded! If Brazil, England, Italy, Spain, Germany and Argentina were all out...they'd have more people interested in the tournament. Everyone likes to see the underdog do well. The only difference is the underdog didn't have the quality to see it past a great team. Australia had more possession...because they had an extra man for an hour for Christ sakes! Wake up Aussies! Stick to cricket!

Or has the last ashes made you sour on that too?

i've answered to most questions about this penalty and i said that it wasn't a penalty.
my answers were not out of emotion, i'm not Australian and i don't dislike the Italian team. there was a slight contact between the two players but not enough to award a penalty, and if the offense is not clear you can't give a penalty especially in the last minute of the game.
for sure i woulnd't have given a penalty for that

No, he should of played it on. There was 10 seconds to go. It seems like Italy are great at diving and unless the referee has anything to do with it, they won't get past the next game against Ukraine.

Bad refereeing. The Socceroos were robbed. They have played well and fairly, we are proud of them but their exit from the world cup is a sad one. Is it because Italy had to be in the finals?
What a joke......

Cos the player took a dive, and the ref liked the way he fell:

Cos the ref's on the pay-role: You not seen the News!?!?

But more than likely:-

The refs wife had £1,000 @ 10-1 on Italy to win, and would have had his balls for breakfast had they not!!

NO! The referee gave it away for no reason. The Italian player just faked it.
