I have no idea. Today, it seems that people would rather throw their shoes out when they need repair. I have often wondered the same thing, myself.

Most of the places that I have seen that repair shoes are also combined with other services such as a tailors, or dry cleaners - or key cutters (I don't quite get the connection here), but I suppose enough people must still use them, or else cobblers would have disappeared altogether

Not very well, but I have them do my husbands' cowboy boots because the old ones conform to his feet and are comfortable and he doesn't want to break a new one in.
