there could be many reasons for this.
try deleting .tmp files from your system, that helps.
try defragmenting your computer.
try using anti-spyware or anti-virus, the pc might be infected.

get Spybot search and destroy,a good antivirus program like Grisoft AVG free edition.Registry Mechanic is pretty good too.
You might want to surf those sites with a valid license and authenticode.Don't surf too much porn or something. And don't download programs from P2P sharing software.About 90% of the programs contain malicious software. Get Free RAM XP pro.Its free.Visit www.download.com

Yah go to Start on bottom left, control panel, and goto add/remove programs. Start getting rid of crap U don't want.
On bottom right corner of screen U have icons like a little speaker for sound, you can right click on those and turn off dumb programs U aren't using anyway.
P.S. - don't delete anything that U don't know what it is
Good lux

Get rid of some unused programs, then get rid of temorary internet files, as every web page you go to is stored on your machine, then defragment the drive, this will free up vast amounts of space and re-arrange you files so that they can be accessed quicker

Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org
AVG FREE Anti-Virus http://free.grisoft.com
Update and run them all. Should help. If you don't notice a major difference run them in safe mode (by pressing F8 when your computer boots).
When these have removed all of your crap off your computer, defrag your harddrive. (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter)

Run a disk cleanup under system tools. You can also go to control panel, click on Internet connections, click on Internet options, click on delete cookies and click on clear history and change the days to keep history to less, click on ok, then run a defrag also under system tools.
