i was driving down the road and went to pass a car. i down shifted into forth and came close to redline. when i started slowing down my shifter was wobbling and it was idling very low and sounded like it was misfiring. i noticed oil running down from the back of the engine on the drivers side just above the oil filter. it looks like it is coming from the head on the back cylinder. also some oil looks like it came out the front of the intake manifold. it doesnt appear to be blowing much(if any) smoke. it starts right up and is drivable to to a repair shop or place to do it. is it a head gasket? Also, how hard it is to replace yourself. the engine is a 350 v8 with throttle body injection from a 1994 silverado. How expensive is it to have repaired?

if the oil is a merky brown and looks like mud then you have a head gasket issue. it will be extremely expensive to fix if the whole thing has to be replaced. you may save some money if it is only a crack or something along those lines. if you have worked on cars before and you have the right tools you may be able to do it yourself but there are a couple of diagnostic test and such that will need to be done by the company you buy the gasket from - i would definitely recommend having the system pressure tested also to make sure it is only that one gasket.

If it was your head gasket then you would most likely have water in your oil. This isnt something that is good i would not even turn the motor on or anything cause if it is your head gasket then your just gonna get water into places it shouldnt be. I would get a trailer and take it to a dealer ship to take care of it.Hope you get it fixed

Instead of the head gasket sounds more like to me a cracked head. Well thats because when my head gasket went out my car was smoking alot.

take the oil cap off the engine. if you see water it is the head gasket. If your water is running out quickly, if too much water is coming out of your muffler too. well that is what you get for passing people!
