Very Easy. May be you have Yahoo Messenger option in your desktop, or in start-programme-Yahoo messenger-yahoo messenger then enter your yahoo id and password and start.

You cannot start a chatroom on the two and a half year old Messenger for Mac, but you can join a chatroom by invitation. Used to, you could do the Java-based chat, but they stopped supporting that as well.

close down your yahoo messenger at the same time as attempting to attempt this. Ive had an same difficulty and for some reason i closed my messenger and the chat loaded up only effective afterwards.

the yaoo chat is not available in yahoo messenger in apple
you can setup the java runtime on your system
and the go to
http://chat.yahoo.com
