Everytime I come to austin, people act real friendly, give me a smile, ask me how I'm doing. I live in a very small town thats like an hour away from austin where nobody ever does that for me.

Austin has a wide variety of people in it which contributes to a tolerant atmosphere for all ideas. Relative peace allows for civility.
For example, we have college kids just starting out life, old senators, the lobbyists form all politic walks trying to influence the congress, the tech industry, etc. all these different points of view in one small area cause people to be exposed to a wide variety of perspectives and broadens their horizons a bit.
Austin also has a higher ratio of people with degrees than most other cities let alone little towns.
The more educated people are, the more civilized they tend to be.
I live in Austin and love the small town feel paired with the big city convenience. Now if we could just get rid of the traffic....

i love austin...i actually ran a couple night clubs there in the mid/late eighties. do you really have to ask. i have moved to a small pueblo in mexico, which i love even more...but austin texas has it all...people are friendly because it is a small city per say, but in all reality it is as big as new york...what i mean is... it has all the things a big city has...but has acheived a sense of still being a community...let me explain further...as large as austin has become... people our proud to be a part of it's continual growth...when you are surrounded in a setting with so much variety...(the lakes, the music, the people, whom are from all different walks of life...the bueaty, the personality of a fun, excepting, striving, hard-working yet relaxed atmosphere...you have no choice then to realize that if you have had the fate or luck or choice to be anywhere else...most austonians would have to answer no way. i truly believe which most from austin do...that austin,texas is as close as most will get to "a piece of heaven on earth". it is such a diverse, controversial,educational location on the earth...why would'nt one want to portray to others their satisfaction,thankfulness and joy to what truly is: "a piece of heaven on earth".
