The Immortal was never on an episode of Buffy. He was only in the 1 episode of Angel in Season 5 called "The Girl In Question". This page is a fully detailed guide to that episode which should answer your question about the Immortal. Unfortunately I can't find anything about who played the character. They only actually showed him out on the dance floor dancing with a girl who was supposed to be Buffy. They never even showed a close up of his face, and you only seen the back of her. :-)

No, he was not shown in Buffy. Buffy would have met him after season 7, which was the last season of Buffy.
The Immortal was described by Angel (in his pouty jealousness) as "a centuries-old guy with a dark past who may or may not be evil." And of course we know Buffy would never go for that kind of guy (see the sarcasm?).
No one was cast to play him, and he was never really shown where you could see what he looks like. Although, we must assume he is good looking to be dancing with Buffy and manage to get a tryst from both Darla and Dru.
As for more information on him, I recommend the Buffy book "Queen of the Slayers" by Nancy Holder. It goes into Buffy's relationship with him. The book is set alongside season 5 of Angel.

Ahh what an impossible question!!.... I would have to go waaaaay back and chose the episode where the spirit of a student who killed his teacher lover is possessing people and making them re-act his tragedy but it always ends the same... until he uses buffy and then souless angel.. its really sad but its suits what is happening with them at the time.. i think its called I only have eyes for you!... also i thought the whole glory serious was the best!!
