Okay, history time...I love history time. Sex and it's relations as you put it used to not be a "secretive" issue...it used to be something that was put out there, that was openly discussed and debated, and frankly fun adult dinner conversation....and then, da dum dum, the Victorian Age...with the prudish, prim and proper Queen Victoria (with her royal we) as the figurehead of propriety. Of course there had been times through-out time where sex was a bit of a "no-no" especially when dealing with other parts of the world...but at no time, and with such range, had the topic of sex been more frowned upon than with Queen Victoria on the thrown, telling everyone in site what to do and what not to do. From her covered hair, to her modest speech and dress, it influenced practically all, and Western Society, in the attitude that was most acceptable.
Then came the backlash in the roaring 20's...where Opium was being smoked, homosexuality was in, and **** was invented (there had been pictures and such before then...but actual moving people in action, oh heaven preserve us). And the 20's mentality didn't really "cool" down until after WWII...where America was at the hilt of God and Country attitude, and that affected dinner conversation.
You then get the 50's where, my oh my, sex was hardly ever discussed, by both adults and adults to their children alike...it was a time of the June Cleavers and the wife at home in the kitchen, and the father that read his paper and went to work every day.
Then, of course, came the 60's with it's free love, drugs, and rock and roll attitude...and that mentality lasted for quite a bit...you had the "metro" 70's with experimentation, the 80's and it's interesting quirks, and even into the early 90's with the "kids will be kids" mantra. But at around the time of the Clinton scandle, and it had been brewing or a while, came a backlash of, oh my, look at what is going on in this society. And from there you get modern day, where you have extremists on both sides...one still for free love at any age...to no one should have sex...
But there are people like me that are in the middle of this paradox. I enjoy talking about sex; in like minded company, but I do know when to keep my mouth shut...and even though my son is 3, when he gets a bit older, we'll have our first talk. So yes, sex is about reproduction and the psychology therein, but the actual discussion about it that goes on, atleast in my house, about it, is about the kinky, the raunchy, and the do's and don'ts of it.
So in closing, talk about all you want, with friends and like minded family members...but don't become a sexual zealot that wants kids in kindergarten to watch ****. Happy Journey Sex Fans...wherever you are.

Most people think it is a private thing and should not be discussed in polite company. I however have no such reservations. I think that you should be open and honest about it especially with children, keeping it secret from them leads them to experiment earlier when they hear about it. The more they are informed the better they can build lasting trusting normal relationships, not just give it up to the first boy to come along.

You are right that reproduction is the nature of human beings. It shouldn't be shy to discus those things. But I think some culture and social are more conservative, so make people think it is embarrance to talk about sex things.
But in this modern era, people have changed and liber. I am not shy to discuss this topics with my friends and get share wtih them.
