In simplest terms, the playing floors are similar to large inter-locking puzzles. Once one team is done, they can change the floor over in a matter of hours. Every now and again they show a time-lapse video of the work which shows the whole process in about 2 ~ 3 minutes...very cool to watch. They have a third court for the LA Sparks.

Also, underneath the floor is the ice rink for the LA Kings. they play there two and that's a whole other process...

the whole hardwood floor was created from a lot of smaller wooden squares, like a jigsaw puzzle. to change the floor from lakers to clippers, they just remove the squares with the lakers logo on it and replace them with those with the clippers logo.

i saw the process before (i think in discovery channel) when an arena had a hockey game in the afternoon and was going to have a NBA basketball game later that night.

BOTH teams play on the same surface, but the entire floor is made up of puzzle pieces that fit together. The entire floor is taken up after one game and then they put down the other floor for the next game.
Here's a website I found.

i didn't know they played in the same arena, but the floor is in sections at all those arenas so they can take it out easily and put whatever they need down.
