I'm curious of others opinions on it, since body modification is frowned upon in my culture/family.

Also does it close up easily, leave a bad scar, or is it easily infected?

I'm not gothic/punks, I'm just curious about lip piercings.

not trashy....if you wear it properly. if you have a ring in your lip and dirty hair and ripped up clothes then I think that looks trashy (just my opinion), if you have funky cute clothes and a fairly trendy hairdo then it works together, mostly think about how you'd feel with it. You can get fake ones, wear one for like a month and then you decide if its trashy or not, there is always going to be some people who hate them and some who love them. Yes they heal quickly, because it is your mouth it can get infected easily but if you are a clean person it shouldn't be a problem, it would leave a little pock mock type scar, like a pimple scar.

I think they are hot. Very acceptable... ***of course those people calling it trashy are not open minded.*** As long as it is taken care of properly and you follow the instructions by the piercer, there should be no problem with it. Also, the scar if you were to take it out would be minimal and barely noticeable... BUT there might be a little pock mark remaining. That all depends on the gauge.

acceptable in certain situations just look at other cultures around the world that is a look of beauty. Going back on certain situations here in the usa it is frowned upon, because the oder generation didn't have that while growing up because it was looked on as trashy. Now it is acceptable in certain jobs you do not want to wear it and certain occasions you do not want to wear it. One day it will be acceptable all the time when we are ready for it.

I had a student who was one of the prettiest girls in the school. Then one day she showed up with a pierced lip and it got attention from everyone, but not the good kind. Keep in mind that anytime you put a hole through your body--including your lip--you risk infection and scar tissue. Anyway, it is my opinion that lip piercings look terrible on anyone, male or female.

i had a labret stud for a couple years and took it out about 6 months ago, just for a change. i liked it, it was cute. the hole is closed but you can tell i had one. piercings are looked upon negatively by many if you will see all the people who said trashy. i think that is so rude. thats like me saying girls who wear shorts are trashy or brunettes are trashy. every person has their own style & though you can have opinions about things, i dont think you should hold them against others. -a-

I've had my labret pierced now for 4 yrs. & I love it, & have never had any trouble out of it at all. My Ex's, & current partner, really seems to admire it. However, not everyone is into Body Mods, & think it's "trashy", "make you look easy, or desperate, or Goth"....But that is simply their opinion...You can't judge a book by the cover...You can be mighty fooled....I have 5 friends with lip or labret piercings, & I will speak for them, & also for myself -- We're not trashy, easy, or Goth...We just happen to like Body Mods...nothing more & nothing less....Let's others think whatever they want, all that matter is that you're happy....

P.S. Another friend of mine had to take out her labret piercing for work...and her's didn't have any trouble closing up, it didn't leave a bad scar, & it didn't have any infection...

Whether it will leave a scar depends on how your body heals. Mine over heals and it would leave alot of scar tissue.

I really wish you wouldn't do it. I think they are ugly and unfeminine. I know our company would never hire a person with one. In an already hard job market why scream cheap person wanting attention. That is what it looks like to an employer.
There are so many fun things that are not permanent to experiment with why something so screaming ugly? Good luck.

Yawn...boring. Facial piercings are no longer unique. They are distracting. I don't necessarily say they are trashy...but these days they are so common. Speaking only for myself, they have the same effect in conversation as talking to someone with food in their teeth or with a boogie on their face. I get so distracted by seeing it, I find it hard to concentrate on what the person is saying. Honestly, I do not mean to put anyone down, but I find them common, boring and distracting.
