It can be a long and painful process of social retribution - stoning someone is not designed to provide a quick and painless death.

How long does it take to rape someone, or commit adultery?...
Don't get me wrong, i am fully opposed to Stoning, lifetime in jail is a better punishment, and less barbaric.
Don't forget who burnt people alive in the old ages. ('witches', heretics, converts... list goes on...)
