The most disturbing part was that tom cruise ( who is about 5 ft tall) saves the world. He is a very rude guy who jumps on other people's coaches. Can we really rely on someone like that to save everone in the whole wide world.

I think they were aiming for disturbing.

Of course, it WAS fiction....though the universe is vast and it's more likely than not that something incredibly disturbing is happening somewhere in the universe at any given moment.

Next time a super nova goes off in a galaxy, keep in mind that just completely sterlized any planet within an incredibly large (light years) radius.

Actually, I have not seen the new version, but if you look at the ORIGINAL version of the time, it scared so many people and seriously enough that it was the ACTUAL CAUSE of the frenezie the AMERICAN people had to have their backyards equiped with BOMB SHELTERS in the 50"s....
Check all the stories in the actual newspapers clips of the time...

I didn't see it because Tom Cruise freaks me out & he's probably a lot more disturbing than the plot itself.

The ending was true to the book, so its not their fault...go take it up with HG Wells.
It was pretty freaky, I'll have to say. Watching it at home does not even come close to watching it in the theatre...
