Call your local museums and aquariums or zoos and see if they hire summer help--even if it's just at the souvenir stand, it's an interesting place to work. Also, visit the local library and ask if they have summer jobs or know of any. Are there any day camps nearby that might need counselors? Also, if you have a special area of interest, contact companies in that business and ask for human resources. Then inquire about paid internships. If you can afford it, an unpaid internship in your field may well be worth seeing if you like it while enabling you to make connections.

I worked as a lifeguard at my local city pool during the Summer when I was a teenager. The only drawback is that you have to get certified which can be pricey & kinda hard if you're not that active. (I'm so un-athletic) But it pays off b/c you make it back when you work & it really is an awesome job. Fun & you get paid to get a tan!!! ;)

I referee little 8 year olds playing soccer. You get payed well for it also (about 10 dollars a game to sideline and more to center ref).

The only downside is you have to take a class and get a license but it's really easy if you've ever played soccer in your life.
