"Do not think that I have forgotten you, Eragon. I have words for both of you. It's time I said them, as you are entering the world. Heed them and they will serve you well." He bent his gaze sternly on them. "First, let not one rule your mind or body. Take special care that your thoughts remain unfettered. One may be a free man and yet be bound tighter than a slave. Give men your ear, but not your heart. Show respect for those in power, but don't follow them blindly. Judge with logic and reason, but comment not.
"Consider none your superior, whatever their rank or station in life. Treat all fairly or they will seek revenge. Be careful with your money. Hold fast to your believes and others will listen. Of the affairs of love... my only advice is to be honest. That's your most powerful tool to unlock a heart or gain forgiveness. That is all I have say."

I think these quotes are good guidelines for one`s life.
I especially agree with the one about treating everyone equally no matter who they are. I try to do so in my life and, as a result, I can say that I have learnt that the most important thing is who you are and not what you have/are.
I also found the quote " One may be a free man and yet be bound tighter than a slave" quite interesting. If you think about it, nowadays, people tend to be slaves of their work, money and of what other people think about them. I always try to avoid this. I work but I `m not a workaholic. I want money, but I`m not willing to do whatever it takes to get it. And as for what people think, who cares!! Sometimes, when walking on the street I look at my husband and say outloud: I love you! People stare but who cares!!

My advice: life`s too short to worry about insignificant things. I try to worry about important things like the happiness of those around me! Enjoy everyday as if it was your last. And, sometimes, just walk bare foot in the rain...

These are powerful thoughts which should remain unfettered, and shine as a beacon for mankind. "Show respect for those in power, but don't follow them blindly" is great advice, particularly for Americans in our time, when we are asked to believe blatant lies and not trust our own instincts. "Consider none your superior, whatever their rank or station in life" is more excellent advice. To Americans, this thought is already a mantra, and should last through the ages. "Treat all fairly or they will seek revenge" is a truism made real by the war in Iraq. To be honest in affairs of love is the only way to be a decent human being in this vital area of our lives. This is great wisdom, and that is all I have to say, except: Peace and Love to all.
