You can get money orders from banks. You used to be able to get them from the US post office, too, but I don't know if they still do that. If you have a checking or savings account, then your best bet is to go to your bank. Most banks will give their customers one or two free money orders per month. Most other places will charge.

I really don't know why anyone would waste their time or money to go buy a five dollar money order. Just put a 5 spot in a security envelope and send it off. No big deal.

go to a bank or grocery store(customer service area) and tell them you want a money order for 5$. Money orders usually cost .50 - 1$ so make sure you have the extra money. If you don't know what to do from there (what to write and where to write it on the money order) feel free to ask the banker or customer service personnel to show you what to do. I believe (if I remember correctly) that you have to write your own address as well as theirs and sign it, but there may be more you have to write. Its been a while since I have written out a money order for anything.

You can go to your bank and if you have an account there, tell the teller you need one, and they shouldn't charge you for it. If you don't have a bank account, for sure the US Post office has them but they will cost you like a $1. They will ask you how much for and then print you out one. You fill it out like a check, keep one copy and send the front copy to the person you owe the money to.
