Love this question! My third child was born in water. :)
Let's see. There is no "official" position for any birth and waterbirth is no exception. I've seen women birth in a squat, on their hands and knees, sitting, side-lying and kneeling, both in and out of the water. It's all about how YOU feel the most comfortable. During a waterbirth, the water catches the baby, so you really don't need to be in a "good" position for someone else's hands... reason #1 to birth in water.
What sort of "pool" are you considering using? I know a number of women who swear by the blow-up children's large "fishy" pools, but I think I'd feel more supported in a regular hot tub (or a modified hot tub, like I birthed in), or a large plastic "horse trough". Something deep and stable. But from the pictures of women birthing in those blow-up pools, I'm assuming that support is not an issue. I'd avoid birthing in a standard bathtub though; not deep enough or wide enough for my tastes.
Babies come out. In the usual way. If you have a progressive caregiver, you'll even be given the responsibility of catching and bringing the baby to the water's surface yourself. It's easy. :)
The warm water tub is commonly referred to as "the midwive's epidural", but it's more than that. Water supports you during and between contractions, eases the changing of positions, reduces the chance of tearing the perenium, eases the baby's transition from the womb to the air and reduces some of the "gross" factor of childbirth.
I could go on and on, but I'll just send you to some good websites and let you learn more on your own.
One last word of advice; while water is a great option to have available, some women who absolutely SWORE they wanted waterbirths have decided they HATED being in the water during labor, so let that be OK too. It's all about how YOU feel comfortable AT THE TIME, not about planning the "perfect" birth.
Have a wonderful birth!

usually a woman will just sit in a bath with her birthing partner sitting behind her and she just gives birth normally as if she was in a hospital bed or something like that, the baby just comes out down the birth canel like normal, the pool is just like the bath. Its ment to be more relaxing to give birth in the water.

Oooh, I love Kya Rose's answer. I always wanted to give birth at a birthing center in a birthing tub, but we don't have birthing centers here and my insurance only covered OBGYN & hospital births. I hope you have a blessed birth!
