3hrs by chunnel and 45min plane ride. You go up and then right back down again! Ironically enough they both costed me the same amount of money! On two different occasions. Chunnel takes you directly into Paris so you dont have to worry about taking a taxi. You can just take a connecting metro depending on where you are staying.

For the English, I think not far enough. The English Channel sperates them by 26 miles.

It isn't that far if you don't get sea sick and it's an eternity if you do. While I was on the ferry from Calais to England, my friend taught the British a new word, "Upchuck". lol
